Why an AI Minor?

Innovations in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are developing at a breakneck pace and affecting everyday life in profound and far-reaching ways. The Bowers CIS AI minor is intended for students who anticipate that AI will play a prominent role in their academic and/or professional careers. 

Areas of Focus

The AI minor is designed to give students a solid foundational understanding of the algorithms and techniques that underlie AI capabilities, including  machine learning, automated reasoning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. It also features coursework on human-AI systems design and AI ethics, governance, and policy. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Build core, foundational skills and knowledge in artificial intelligence and computer programming.
  • Implement AI algorithms and methods as computer programs.
  • Design and evaluate AI systems in human contexts.
  • Explain the implications and broader context of AI in human society.​

Eligibility

Open to undergraduates in all majors, beginning with December 2024 graduates.

Prerequisites

This is a technical minor—students must complete computer programming, probability, calculus, and linear algebra courses prior to enrolling in the minor’s required coursework.
